Allah and Elohim
- Are they the same God? Part 4
Many a times Muslims say like this, "Some of the biggest
misconceptions that many non-Muslims have about Islam have to do
with the word "Allah". Somehow, many people have come
to believe that Muslims worship a different God than Christians
and Jews. This is totally false, since "Allah" is simply
the Arabic word for "God" - and there is only One God.
Let there be no doubt - Muslims worship the God of Noah, Abraham,
Moses, David - peace be upon them all. It is important to note that
"Allah" is the same word that Arabic-speaking Christians
and Jews use for God. If you pick up an Arabic Bible, you will see
the word "Allah" being used where "God" is used
in English. "Allah" is the only word in the Arabic language
equivalent to the English word "God" with a capital "G".
"
OK, let me give
you one example. A man named Jim thinks in his mind that he is LION.
He goes to a zoo and did his makeup as LION. He tries to walk as
LION, eat like LION and locks up himself in a cage of LION. He puts
a big board outside his cage which says in big, bold letters, "LION,
KING OF THE JUNGLE" . Now when people come to zoo, he shows
himself as a LION. But need less to say that he is showing himself
as a man rather than a LION. Why? Because there is no match in the
quality of Jim and LION. If Jim wants to be a LION he must have
the qualities of a LION. By simply locking himself in a cage or
doing his makeup like LION will not make him a LION. In the same
way, the qualities or message of Allah is not matching with the
God of the Bible means he is not the God of the Bible.
Let us look at
the name of the Elohim/Yahweh God.
We read in Genesis
that Bible begins by declaring that God is the Creator of all that
exists. The name of God in Gensis
1.1 is used Elohim that is plural in form but not in number. The
plural is used for honor or intensity, sometimes known as the plural
of majesty.
Yahweh is the personal
name for the covenant God of Israel, the pronunciation of which
was lost because the Israelites considered it too sacred to vocalize
(Ex. 3:14). Yahweh. It is regularly translated "Lord,"
with capital and small capital letters, to distinguish it from ^adonai,
the title, "Lord." Up to this point only Elohim (Hebrew),
translated "God," indicating the transcendent God of Creation,
has been used in Genesis 1:1. And in New Testament we read the same expression
of Jesus when He declared "I AM". The
absolute emphatic declaration "I AM" is the exact
quality of the God of Abraham which was described in Exodus
3:14, where the words stand for the eternal person of
Yahweh. Jesus declared that He existed even before Abraham was.
Jesus is God, the Yahweh of the Old Testament.
Yahweh is the name
that introduces God in His redemptive capacity. The divine name
Yahweh is identified as God's covenant name showing His personal
relationship to those who believe. God of the Bible again and again
showed Himself as Redeemer, deliverer or Savior. Jesus who is the
same Yahweh God of Old Testament and whose name is Yeshua which
exactly means "Salvation", the Yahweh God came down to
save us from our sins and hell fire.
But the Quran does
not say 'Allah' as redeeming or delivering or saving god. But Allah
talks about the day of Judgment which is the day of vengeance and
the day of getting verdict and sentence. Bible describes that is
the day when God will pour out His wrath on those who rejected God
and His work. This is the day of God's fury. But the Bible tells
us how to escape from this terrible day of the Lord. We can escape
from the wrath of God by taking His forgiveness in our lives by
coming to the cross and by taking the blood of Jesus in our lives.
Yes, Jesus promised for those who belive on His name in John
5:24, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and
believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not
come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."
So come to the cross
and take eternal life in you so that you may never face the day
of judgment but have a happy and peaceful life with almighty God.
So again we can
see that Allah is not showing the qualities of the God of the Bible.
If Allah is the same God of the Bible he should show the qualities
of the God of the Bible and give the same message which was spoken
of by all the other prophets. But we do not see the same message
or the same qualities of Elohim or Yahweh in Allah.
