Is Quran the Word of God? Part 8

Was Muhammad foretold in the Bible?

Last week we discussed whether Muhammad was a prophet or not. We studied the lives of Bible prophets who exhibited identical qualities which a prophet should have, but was missing from the life of Muhammad. Though Muslims have claimed that Muhammad was the last prophet etc. but we do not see the basic qualification of a prophet in his life.

3. Was Muhammad foretold in the Bible?:

Muslim Scholars have tried their best to convince the world that Muhammad was the prophet spoken of in the Bible. In their desperate attempts to prove their point, they did not even have any fear to equate Yahweh God - to Muhammad. Dr. Jamal Badawi the Islamic Scholar wrote in his article, "Muhammad in the Bible" like this, "One of the signs of the prophet to come from Paran (Mecca) is that he will come with "ten thousands of saints" (Deuteronomy 33:2 KJV). That was the number of faithful who accompanied Prophet Muhammad to Paran (Mecca) in his victorious, bloodless return to his birthplace to destroy the remaining symbols of idolatry in the Ka'bah."

Now if you have not read Deuteronomy 33:2, from Bible you will think that Dr. Jamal Badawi is right. But let me quote the whole verses here from KJV Bible:

Deu 33:1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
Deu 33:2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

The above verses are very clear in speaking that LORD came down from Sinai... shined forth from mount Paran. Verses 1-2 of Deuteronomy 33rd chapter clearly says that Moses spoke about his experience that God came down when they camped in the place called Paran. You can also look at Numbers 10:12 where it says, "And the children of Israel set out from the Wilderness of Sinai on their journeys; then the cloud settled down in the Wilderness of Paran."

If you read further you will know that God used to come down in a cloud and pillar of fire among the Israelites in their wilderness journey. And Moses is referring to that experience before his death as we read in

Deu 33:1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
Deu 33:2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them..

So we know that Moses was not talking about the coming prophet using the most respected name of God "LORD" but he was simply sharing his experience that God came down in their midst.

Dr. Jamal Badawi also claimed that, "Habakkuk 3:3 speaks of God (God's help) coming from Te'man (an Oasis North of Medina according to J. Hasting's Dictionary of the Bible), and the holy one (coming) from Paran. That holy one who under persecution migrated from Paran (Mecca) to be received enthusiastically in Medina was none but prophet Muhammad."

No matter how the dictionary twist this verse and make 'God' to appear as "God's help", Bible is very clear in Habakkuk 3.3 that, "God came from Teman as we read, "God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise(Hab 3:3)." If you read further the 4th to 6th verses make it very clear that these verses are talking about God and not about any human being.

Not only that, Dr. Jamal Badawi claimed that the "Parakletos" which was spoken in the book of John 14, 15 and 16 was Muhammad. But is it true? The Greek term Parakletos is used to refer to "Holy Spirit" or "Spirit of Truth". Bible says in John 14:16-17, "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."

John 14:26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."

As we looked in our previous issues, "Holy Spirit" or "Spirit of Truth" will come and dwell in us and will be a helper, comforter and advocate for us. When Jesus promised to give another Helper, He did not say that Muhammad (or a man) will DWELL IN YOU but He said that "Holy Spirit" or "Sprit of Truth" will come and live in you and guide you, lead you and teach you all things. Spirit of Truth means Spirit of God or Spirit of Jesus as we read in John 14:6, Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Jesus or God is the Truth and Spirit of truth is called Holy Spirit. These verses do not talk about Muhammad or an ordinary prophet but these verses talk about God's Spirit.

All these interpretations of Islamic scholars tell us that they are desperate to prove Muhammad's identity by twisting the Bible verses. But they forgot that equating an ordinary person called Muhammad with God or Holy Spirit is a great sin. It is very clear that Bible does not talk anything about Muhammad.
